Canon Can!
Stop Press: My Canon camera has literally just arrived twenty minutes ago! Well anticipated, Amazon and Royal Mail.
Tim, some of your readers may be interested to know that Finnebrogue House near Downpatrick is on the market, for £1.5m. As you will know, this was for many years the seat of the Perceval-Maxwell family, relatives of the Lords de Ros. See - http://www.propertynews.com/brochure.php?r=1&c=1&s=81498109&i=0&p=PNC481291&fp=1&sort=h2l Mourne Park, home of the Earls Kilmorey appears to remain on the market for £10m at http://www.mournepark.co.uk/ (although it has been removed from the Knight Frank website - I don't know if that means it has been sold). Personally, I'd rather live at Finnebrogue - much more manageable and convenient!
Finnebrogue is under offer by a guy called Noel Lamb who lives in the Courtyard at Templepatrick. I dont think it was the seat of the Perceval Maxwells as such. As it used to be owned by the Lindsay family before them. I used to go to parties at Finnebrogue in my teens!!
Anon You are right I am thinking of the family (Gun-Cunningham's)that sold it to the Belfast Architect circa 10 years ago and previous to them it was Lindsay's and prior to them P-M's
Just for the record the Lindsays never owned the house or it's grounds, but the farmland. The PMs sold it to the Gun-Cunningham family and subsequently through various hands. Denis Lynn now farms the lands, producing the excellent Finnebrogue venison. I intend to buy a cut for a dinner party soon! Highly recommended.

ReplyDeleteAre you sure, Peregrine? The P-Ms were certainly there in the first half of the C20th.

ReplyDeleteHighly recommended.
Here's the entry from Raymond's co Down website for 1876:
ReplyDeleteRobert P. Maxwell, address Finnebrogue, Downpatrick, and Groomsport House, Belfast, owned 8,347 acres.
It was a big estate in its time.
