To Buckingham Palace

I know it sounds old-fashioned and, perhaps, stuffy; and yet I have the honour to remain Her Majesty's most humble and obedient servant.

Many congratulations, Ma'am, on your successful  State Visit to the Republic of Ireland, which Your Majesty handled so graciously and with great generosity of spirit. Clearly the vast majority of the Irish people were cordially delighted to see you.

The support of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, remained steadfast, as ever.

Just wondering if you ever got a reply? I wrote a few days before you did with congratulations on the same topic and recieved my reply a few weeks later from the Hon Mary Morrison, DCVO, Lady-in-Waiting to Her Majesty.

  3. I did not receive a reply. David Anderson asked me a week ago, too.

I wrote to Christopher Geidt. Mr Geidt has not acknowledged my letter.

Perhaps it was a simple omission.

just went and found the letter I got back, it didn't come until 5th July and reads:

    " Dear Mr McClements,

The Queen wishes me to rite and thank you for your kind words about Her Majesty's recent historic State Visit to Ireland.

The Queen was delighted to be able to go to the Republic for the first time, and both she and The Duke of Edinburgh are most grateful for your thoughtfullness in writing as you did.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mary Morrison
    Lady-in-Waiting "

Pretty non-discript and similar to every other Buckingham Palace letter I have ever received.

It is odd for the Household not to reply but I suppose with all the post the get it must happen now and them...

  5. Absolutely, I'm sure there is some simple explanation - perhaps he thought staff had replied.

On a petty matter, do they use 2nd class postage now? A sign of the economising times, I suppose.

That said, many supporters send postage First Class to royal residences!

Just checked back over lots of "Royal" post: mostly 1st Class including the said State Visit letter, but a few second class (mostly from Clarence House). HRH The Duchess of Cornwall writes privately to me now and then: her letters arrive "Special Delivery".

Like you I always send 1st Class to the Palace and in general (as Secretary of my Boys' Brigade Battalion I sometimes use second class, as a measure of economy, simply because it is not my money!)
