Is this the same Ismay that had such dreadful publicity after the sinking of RMS Titanic ?
It was his Father - quite a different character, he was a great self-made man who brought a huge amount of business to Harland and Wolff. After his death, his son, J. Bruce Ismay (who'd been sent to Harrow...) sold his controlling stake in White Star to JP Morgan, and left the sinking Titanic. VC
