The Duchess of Edinburgh

THE DUCHESS OF EDINBURGH is 59 today.

Her Royal Highness's full style is as follows,
Her Royal Highness The Princess Edward Antony Richard Louis, Duchess of Edinburgh, Countess of Wessex and Forfar, and Viscountess Severn

HRH received the Royal Family Order of QUEEN ELIZABETH II in 2004.

She was appointed Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO) in 2010.

The badge of the Royal Victorian Order features on The Duchess of Edinburgh's armorial bearings.

Hasn't Prince Philip to die before Sophie Wessex can claim the Edinburgh title? It's linked to Philip surely and not the queen?

You're correct; though I understand that this also applies re The Queen.

As I understand it the Queen is still Duchess of Edinburgh. She could be treated as the Dowager Duchess but I think with Royal Dukedoms they are in the gift of the monarch, and the plan is to wait for Charles III.

I wonder if we'll see an announcement before the coronation?
