18th Duchess of Alba

By Jove, the Duchess of Alba has more titles than Dame Agatha has written novels! I say this because the Duchess is re-marrying in the autumn of her life, at eighty-five years old.

She was born on March 28, 1926, at the Liria Palace, Madrid. The Duchess is the daughter of the 17th Duke.

The Daily Telegraph has an article about her, including many photographs. Granted, she is no beauty now; though the Duchess was prettier in her younger days, believe it or not.

Thanks for this news. I am actually related to Maria del Rosario Cayetana FITZ-JAMES STUART Y SILVA (1926 - ): wife of 6th cousin 3x removed.

Her first husband was Pedro Luis MARTÍNEZ DE IRUJO Y ARTAZCOZ (1919 - 1972).

His great-grandmother was Sarah Maria "Sally" McKEAN (1777 - 1841) (my 2nd cousin 7x removed), who was daughter of Thomas McKEAN (1734 - 1817), who signed US Declaration of Independence and was a governor of Pennsylvania.

Thomas McKEAN's mother was Letitia FINNEY (1709 - 1742), and I am related to this FINNEY line (my maternal grandmother is a FINNEY).

Not surprisingly, genealogy is a favourite hobby of mine. I've used Facebook to track down some of my distant (9th cousin) MARTINEZ DE IRUJO cousins living in Madrid, and correspond with them.

However, I'm not expecting to receive an invitation to the Duchess' wedding!

Hello Allan,

Indeed it is a time-consuming pastime! I've done a little in my time.

Many congratulations on the research, too.
