7th Earl of Caledon

The Caledon Estate in County Tyrone is one of Northern Ireland's most private country estates; certainly one of the finest.

The village of Caledon, County Tyrone, is a mere seven miles from the City of Armagh.

The Caledon estate straddles counties Tyrone and Armagh and is adjacent to the border with the Irish Republic.

Caledon estate is the seat of the Right Honourable Nicholas James Alexander, Earl of Caledon, Lord-Lieutenant of County Armagh and a Justice of the Peace.

Lord Caledon re-married in 2008 to Amanda Cayzer, and they had a private wedding in Chelsea.

He has country estates in Oxfordshire, County Tyrone (3,000 acres) and Hertfordshire.

Caledon Castle is pictured.

Lord Caledon's son and heir is Frederick, Viscount Alexander; and he has a teenage daughter, Lady Leonora.

Lord Caledon's sister, Lady Jane Alexander, is an equine therapist and lives in the village of Caledon.

Lord Caledon has a distant cousin, the Earl Alexander of Tunis, whose father was the illustrious war-time field-marshal.

Taberna Salmon

This evening I had the salmon steak with sauté potatoes and coleslaw at Juan and Ana's restaurant in Corralejo, La Taberna.

It appears to be customery here for fresh fish to be served on the bone, not my ideal scenario.

Nevertheless, La Taberna's salmon, despite the bones, was very good indeed and nicely cooked.

The alioli here is the best I've tasted on the island.

Juan is a fervent Real Madrid supporter and uses a scooter to commute to work.

Prawn Salad

Tomato salad with large prawns and crusty bread with olive oil, prepared by the Kactus tapas bar in Corralejo, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands.

Gin Time

A refreshing Tanqueray gin and tonic-water outside my preferred tapas bar in Corralejo, the Kactus, watching the world pass by.

Betancuria: Mañana

I had intended revisiting the old inland village of Betancuria today. I packed the little haversack with the floppy hat, sunglasses, some fruit, iPad etc.

I set out for the bus station and, within two minutes of reaching the terminus, realized that I'd forgotten to bring the bus card.

I have a plastic bus card here because it saves money, hassle and time.

Never mind. As they say in these parts, Mañana.

Photo Deletion

I made a ghastly error and inadvertently deleted my blog photographs from Picasa web albums.

Fortunately there are not permanently deleted; they are in the "bin".

I've been diligently restoring the images to the blog, though it's rather time-consuming and every individual image has to be ticked and restored.

I hope.

Corralejo: II

The weather has been fine, sunny and very warm here. I spent about three hours at the main beach.

It's ten past six and the sun still shines brightly. The blasted internet connection at my apartment still doesn't work, so I'm having a cafe condensado at El Cantante bar and making use of their free wifi instead.

My tapas at El Kactus was splendid last night. The little morsels of beef fillet in a creamy cognac sauce were delicious, especially since the dish cost a mere €6 or €7.
