The Earl of Belmont wishes to apologize to any persons whomsoever, within the Earldom, who found the flying of the Number One size Union Flag outside the Porch of his lordship's residence on Royal Wedding Day in any way offensive.
It will be noted that Lord Belmont has personally received gestures of support from well-wishers, neighbours and supporters of the Blog, its ethos and values.

I feel no qualms at all about flying the flag from the roof of C. Castle. Don't apologise for flag flying, especially on occasions of national importance - if ever there was a day for patriotism, it was yesterday. As for those who fly the Union flag upside down, I do despair... VC
You are acquainted, no doubt, with the terms "U" and "non-U". If one must ask the question is already answered...
My flag has the cord at the correct end, viz. the thick white end being uppermost; so that makes it simple enough.
Anon, I have a little book by Debrett, published decades ago, about U and non-U; haven't read it for awhile, I must admit. The book's cover has faded with age.

I'm sure you've been enjoying the Royal wedding. I was surprised to see Cardinal Sean Brady had accepted his invitation to the wedding - that ticket should have been yours by rights, Tim, as a devout royalist!!!
I had a glass of bubbly (any excuse) at home and wished I had the chance to wear a big hat somewhere. Maybe I'll just buy one and wear it while I do the washing-up.
Chelsea Wine Bar looks nice, must try it sometime. We usually go to INK as the parking is so handy!!!

INK is lovely. It used to be open every night from Wed onwards but now only on Sat and Sun. Great view over the city, menu is cheap as chips, around £13 for two courses with (sometimes) free wine. I love it and may hold an art exhibition or something there sometime. They don't charge for room hire or staffing, only drinks and nibbles. Honestly I'd get married there if I was a young girl again. The staff are lovely, they can't do enough for you. I'll let you know if I hold anything there. Downstairs at the Four Winds is a perfectly fine bar wherer my fave dish is a chicken wrap with salad and chunky chips.
I've practically been a recluse in recent years due to work but the Royal wedding has given me a hankering for gadding about again and not doing very much work at all.
By the way, I've a short story in the Tatler this month, which I'm delighted about as the literary editor is none other than Glenn Patterson. I love his book, NUMBER 5.

Lillies is slightly further out of town, on the other side of the Lisburn Road from the Chelsea, used to be called Tattoo. It was busy but pleasant last night.
