How different from today. How many fishmongers, if any, are left? We go to some trouble to find our fish now, and expense, and they need to be delivered. In the 1950's when working on the railways, it was our "privilege" to deal with the 3 a.m. arrival of the fish train. I like to claim it was an essential part of my education.
Came across this by chance, after all, how many would google “fishmongers, belfast in the 60’s”. I recall my grandparents visiting her brothers fishmongers, Archer Hanlon number 28 on this list. They would often take me and I remember how clean the place was.
Dear Poach, I'm glad they cleaned the plaice (!)
