Which Sausage?

I had a brief look at the Which? Magazine and they have been reviewing supermarket bangers:-

  • First: Marks and Spencer British Outdoor Bred Pork Sausages. They scored 76% and cost £2.69
  • Second: Tesco Finest British Traditional Pork Sausages. 68%. £2.59
  • Third: Sainsbury's

I'm always on the lookout for a tasty beef sausage most of the supermarket's pre-packed ones are tasteless i.e. lack seasoning and spices, even Tesco's finest Aberdeen Angus are so so. Any suggestions?

I like a good beef sausage, too.

Readers, please come up with suggestions and recommendations!

Look for a local farmer/ butcher, he should have a good selection of beef sausages from his meat off cuts.

Much better than anything shrink wrapped in plastic.

I recommend McCartney's of Moira for decent sausages. I have tried quite a few and they were all very tasty. They also do a Belgian style grillwurst with cheese which is already cooked. This one is addictive!

I concur with Anon that Mc Cartney's of Moira are very good..there is always a significant queue all day Saturday so they must be doing something right- I quite like the Asda Special Aberdeen Angus beef and mustard sausages - the mustard just adding that extra element. It seems it is always worth checking the ingredients to ensure the meat content is higher than 75 pc.

I'd be keen to pay a visit to Moira and that celebrated butcher's shop.

As far as supermarket bangers are concerned, perhaps M&S beef would be worth trying?

Dear Timothy. Please go to Moira and take home a sample of each. Then please give us your definitive comments!

Lord B, you must be familiar with Coffey's on Belmont Road and their delicious pork and leek bangers. If not, remedy the situation swiftly!

Are Coffey's pork & leek the ones to get? Tried Coffey's beef bangers?

Yes the pork and leek are better than the pork alone. They have a lightness to them, ie the meat is not densely packed, which makes them not too heavy to eat. I haven't tried the beef, alas - you can fill us in on those anon!
